It's Winter Time in the South

It's winter time here down South where we live. I know it hasn't really turned cold yet, but to me, when the temperatures drop into the 30's at night, it's cold. My husband has come home from work nearly every day to build us a cozy fire to snuggle up to at night,(when we finally get a chance to maybe watch the 10:00 news,LOL). I'm not a big fan of the winter months, but the look and feel, and yes, even the smell of a wood burning fire gives me something to look foward to at night. One night last year, my husband even took our mattress off our bed, and put it in front of the fireplace, so we could sleep there that night... Isn't he the sweetest? I'm lucky, and that probably won't be the last time you hear me say that. Here's a couple of pictures that he took of our fire the other night. The wood he cut up this year, has a distinct crackling, popping noise, and we love it!! Our fireplace does bring a bit of should I say history/trouble in our home. We had an incident last year on Christmas Day. If you would like to read about it, click here.

It's cold where I'm at too! Now more importantly, is that the sexy John Bon Jovi singing to me?!!!! Suddenly, I feel the temperature rising! :O)

I wish I had a wood-burning fireplace! I miss the sound and smell of a real fireplace. Mine is gas. Still cozy but not the same. I love the idea of your husband bringing the mattress out to sleep by it.

Wow, what a story! I'm glad it turned out well.

I think I would be a big fat chicken to light a fire again!

We had a wood fireplace 2 houses ago. My house smelled smoky inside every winter and my eyes always burned when we used it.. it had been cleaned professionally, but I never did trust the thing... Our home now has a gas log and I sleep better at night knowing there are no snap crackle and pops that could cause a fire.... So glad you caught your hot wall on time! Whew.
