i heart faces winners ....

This is the photo that won the i heart faces contest this week. The theme this week was J-O-Y

I've been anxiously awaiting all week for the winners of the i heart faces photograph blog contest. Of course I entered Cooper's picture this week. He didn't win, but I would like to share with you the photograph that won, and some of their top picks. I love this blog, it's the coolest , especially if you're even remotely into taking pictures, and trying to capture that special moment.

See above for pictures, I have yet to figure out how to post pictures as I go. Some of their favorites follow....they did a top ten, and I picked out of those a couple of my favorites!! Enjoy!

Fireproof: A Must See Movie

On Friday night , a local non-denominational church offered a free showing of the movie Fireproof. It stars Kirk Cameron, who starred in "Growing Pains" back in the 1980's. He is also known for the movies made from the "Left Behind" series of books.

I would recommend this movie to all married couples. It is a tear-jerker, however, the tears are well worth it. My husband even loved it too. It tells a great story of a married couple in crisis, and how they work things out with their faith in Christ, and each other.

I'm so glad that we went to see the movie, even though I was tired and really didn't feel like going. It's also kid-friendly. We took Connor with us to see it, and he really enjoyed it too.

I think the movie should be out on DVD by now. It hasn't been that long since it was released in theaters. Just a recommendation for a good movie to watch over the weekend!!

Have a great day....

I love faces entry...

I found this new blog website from Katie at Blessed By 3 Miracles. It's such a cute thing to do if you have kids or grand kids, even nieces or nephews.

The name of it is, i heart faces. They choose a weekly winner for kids, and they have an adult category too. Every week there's a new theme. This week , the theme is JOY. I picked this picture of Cooper for this week. We took this picture of him at Disney World. I think it fits JOY, don't you? Please visit their website at: http://iheartfaces.blogspot.com/.
Thanks for visiting!!

What's for supper tonight? Do you get tired of hearing this...here's an easy fix...

Sometimes my husband doesn't have to say a single word to me, and I already know what he's thinking. What's for supper? Well, sometimes I feel like cooking more than others. It hits me in spurts. I'm sure some of you can agree with me on that one, especially if you work full time/have kids/have a house to keep up.

Last week, I was really feeling burnt out on what to cook. Since we were running a little low on groceries, I decided what I wanted to fix. It's something my husband and 6-year old son love. So, I went to the pantry, and , well, I didn't have all the ingredients I needed. So, I had to come up with plan B. I had some cube steaks defrosted. The week before I bought some Jimmy Dean Sausage Gravy mix (the ones in the packets). So, I fried up the cube steaks in my beautiful black iron skillet, popped some of those Pillsbury Buttermilk Biscuits in the oven, and whipped up the sausage gravy(2 packets). I have to say, it was absolutely delicious!! It doesn't sound like much, but it's very filling!!

My husband and son were in the woods deer hunting, and I was expecting them home any minute. An hour after the supper was finished, they arrived home. I couldn't wait on them, so I went ahead and ate by myself:( They had to heat it up, but they both enjoyed it too. So, this week I made it again! I think it's going to be my new favorite thing to cook!! I took pictures this week so ya'll could see what it looked like...LOL. Try it and enjoy!!

Have a good week!!

Spongebob or not to Spongebob?

I never really thought about the cartoon Spongebob Squarepants, being horrible, until today, when an ENT Surgeon that I work with said he won't let his kids watch it. Connor is 6 years old, and he' s been watching Spongebob for at least 3 years now. I don't know what the deal is with Spongebob, but kids just seem to go into a "trance" when they sit down to watch it. What is up with that?

BTW, the ENT surgeon that I work with has kids, all from the ages of 16 to 10. (4 kids in all). I would think that they might have missed the boat on Spongebob, and been a little too old for it, but I guess not.

We got into a heated discussion about Spongebob not being appropriate for school-age kids because of the domestic situations that are sometimes portrayed on the show. For example: Spongebob and Patrick once adopted something, (i can't exactly remember, but some kind of other sea animal).

I don't know what to think. I've watched Spongebob in bits and pieces, and although I think it's outright absurd , I don't see how it could really be that bad. It's better than watching cartoon network, which I do not allow my son to watch.

What do ya'll think? Am I making a mistake by letting Connor watch marathons of Spongebob? I'm thoroughly confused...

Coca-Cola and a little history...

Love the new aluminum Coke bottle...haven't seen these here yet
Remember this bomb?

Ahhh...the original, and the best!

January has been a slow month for me in the blogging world. I've stuggled to come up with things to blog about. I've also let the time get away from me in the evenings, which is the only time I have to get online. My boys keep me on my toes most of the time.

While thinking of something, anything to blog about today, I was drinking my second Coca-Cola of the day. ( i know it's a bad habit). I wondered how many of you like the soft drink. Down South, where I've been born and raised, and still live, we call everything a Coke. Whether it be a Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, whenever someone says, "I want a Coke", you simply ask "what kind?". LOL. I know this seems an oddity, that's just always the way it's been.

Any of you remember back in 1985, when the company introduced the New Coke? It was horrible, and such a failure in the marketing world. I remember my mom buying it in those 2 and 3 liter bottles, and we drank it, because the original Coke didn't exist anymore. I'm so glad they changed their minds.

I was at work the other day, and a group of us were talking about how good peanuts are in your Coke. I'm sure this sounds absurd to most people, but I think it's truly a Southern thing. Just drop some peanuts in the bottom of your Coke bottle, and when you're finished drinking your Coke, eat the peanuts! If you've never tried it, you should. It's great, especially in the summer time. We Southerners love to use Coke for just about anything with cooking. I marinate my ham with a mixture of Coke, brown sugar, and strawberry applesause. Marinating venison, tenderizes the meat, and makes it so much better to eat. Pork Loin, and Boston Butts, are also delectable when marinated in Coke?

So, how addicted to Coke are you? Diet Coke used to be my thing, but I've lost the taste for it! Chad's mom Vikki, from Magnolia Memories, has been addicted to Coke since I've known her. I think I get my addiction from her. She drinks Coke on ice, and when I'm sick, that's usually the cure for me!

I've Been Tagged!!

Well, I'm just now getting on my blog after a horrible weekend on call. I work in the operating room, and we were busy this weekend. I think I worked about 24 hours in over time. After checking in on my dashboard, I found out that I had been tagged. I aplogize for just now getting the chance to participate, so here goes. First I would like to thank Jeanne at Backyard Neighbor for tagging me!

Name 6 things that I value:

  • My family. I don't know what I would do without my wonderful husband Chad. He is so good to me. I couldn't ask for a better partner in life. Our two boys Connor & Cooper, are so precious to me. I love to see what they have in store for me everyday.

  • My health. I'm so lucky to not have any serious health issues to deal with.Other than being a little overweight, I've always been healthy. Seeing sick people everyday makes you so thankful to be healthy, and to be able to work, and live life to the fullest. My husband and boys are healthy too, so we have lots to be thankful for.

  • My home. We bought a new house about a year and half ago. We were going to build a house in a subdivision, but found this house and decided since I was pregnant at the time, it would be easier to buy. Although this is not the house I would have built, I absolutely treasure it! I take pride in my home, and decorating it, and well, trying to keep it maintained and clean, but with two young boys in the house, that's hard to do all of the time! LOL

  • Trust. There's only a few friends that I know that I can really trust. It's hard to come by. This day in time, you just don't know who you can really trust anymore.

  • My wedding rings. I know this may sound silly, but i absolutely love the engagement ring that my husband gave to me 11 years ago. It's a princess cut diamond, and it's absolutely breathtaking. I don't know what I would do if I ever lost it! I take it off when I get home everyday. I don't like to wash dishes, or shower with it on. I knew a lady one time that lost her rings while washing dishes, and never found it!

  • Pictures. Our wedding pictures, and pictures of my boys. I love taking pictures! I have them all stored on my computer. When we went to Disney World a couple of months ago, between my mom and me, we took over 800 pictures. There's nothing like capturing memories. I'm so worried that someday my computer will crash, and I will lose them all!

Six things I don't value:

  • Not strapping kids into carseats/booster seats. This is something that I had experience with this past weekend on call. A child not retstrained in the booster seat, mom going 80mph, do know exactly what happened, but the child came in with a gruesome scalp laceration, that had to be repaired under general anesthesia in the operating room. It takes 30 seconds to strap a child in, I don't understand why people are so careless or lazy.

  • My temptation for sweets....it's horrible. I could eat something sweet in place of a good meal.

  • People having conversations on their cell phones in public places. Now I know this can't be helped this day in time, but having conversations on cell phones in public that aren't appropriate, gets on my last nerve, especially if you're trying to grocery shop.

  • Drunk Driving. Enough said.

  • Smoking. I see it affect many of my patients on a day to day basis. I try to teach them the hazards, health risks associated with it, but don't know how much I get through to them. If a relatively young person quit smoking today, the signs of smoking could not even be visible in the lungs within 6 months of quitting. It's never too late to quit!!

Telemarketers. Why do they always call during supper time?

Thanks for visiting my blog:) I would like to tag the following 6 people: Please send a link back to my blog, and tag 6 others (if you wish). I love reading other bloggers comments.

Happy New Year! ...A Giveaway Annoucement!

Hope you all are having a Happy New Year's Day! The Southern tradition is that we eat black-eyed peas, and usually something green such as cabbage, or collard greens. The black-eyed peas are for luck, and the greens are for more $. Today we are going to Chad's mom's to have black-eyed peas, homemade hashbrowns, cornbread, and a roast. I'm looking foward to it. She's a great cook. It's always better to eat something someone else cooks, right? Now onto the giveaway. Please visit Susie at http://susieharris.blogspot.com/. She has these beautiful, hand painted signs that she makes, with the most wonderful sayings. Check out her Etsy shop while visiting her blog. It just opened! She's having a giveaway, so be sure to comment, and check out the featured item!
